BIBLICAL CASE AGAINST NAIVETY
Proverbs 14:15
1 John 4:1
"Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world.
These are
good verses to place on an index card and memorize. So many today have bought in to the spiritually dumb syndrome where they are afraid, with evil fear, to question, investigate, or discern doctrines and the fruit of people who are in leadership.
Excuse me, but didn't JESUS instruct us to be fruit inspectors (not with an evil heart though)?
"Ye shall know (Greek - discern) them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes of thorns, or figs of thistles? Even so every good tree bringeth forth good fruit; but a corrupt tree bringeth forth evil fruit. A good tree cannot bring forth evil fruit, neither can a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit. Every tree that bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire. Wherefore by their fruits ye shall know (Greek - discern) them." Matthew 7:16-20
Friend, why would the Son of God tell us that we would "know - discern" people by their "fruits" if He didn't intend for us to do so???
Of course, what the LORD wants me to do is to first place my own heart, motives and life to the acid test of the Holy Scriptures, then I will see clearly to help others (who have needs) to be restored to their rightful relationship with God and to avoid deceivers who were promised to be in our midst (1 Cor. 11:31-32; Gal. 6:1-2; Matt. 7:1-6; Acts 20:27-32; 2 Peter 2:1-22; 1 Tim. 4:1-2; Col. 2:8...) .
